W123 50th
50th Anniversary of the W123 series
In January 1976 on a cold snowy day in Stuttgart a press release was held for what was to become one of the defining models of the Mercedes-Benz passenger car range. Fast forward to the Australia Day Long weekend in January 2026 where the Mercedes-Benz club of the ACT in conjunction with the W123 Australia Facebook group will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of this event here in the nation’s capital.
Proposed event schedule:
Friday 23rd January
- 6:00pm Early arrivals welcome event, most likely a BBQ
Saturday 24th January
- 9:00 am Swap meet, a great opportunity to bring your junk along and take someone else’s junk home with you. Meet at the Black Mountain carpark.
- 10:00am Scenic drive ending up at a scenic location for lunch.
- 2-5:00pm Selection of tours of Canberra attractions, hopefully something for everyone.
Sunday 25th January
- 8:30am Cars & Coffee.
- 10:00am Show and Shine, venue to be sorted, but hopefully somewhere in the Parliamentary triangle
- 1-4:00pm Selection of tours of Canberra attractions, hopefully something for everyone.
- 6:00pm Dinner and awards at one of the local sporting clubs here in Canberra.
Monday 26th January
- 7:30am Farewell breakfast.
Our aim is to make this event flexible, affordable and family friendly, with attendees able to choose which events they want to go on.
Further details will be posted here, on the W123 Australia Facebook page and will be distributed to all Mercedes-Benz clubs in Australia.
